Mrs. Zoma Faye Montgomery (Bartlett) 69, passed away May 5, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 1, 1951 in Indianapolis to Herbert and Hazel Bartlett. Zoma was the beloved wife of Leo Montgomery; loving mother of Jerome (Royce) Oleric (Brandy), Rache’, Damon (Janna); proud grandmother of Louis and Miles; and sister of Rudolph Bartlett. Zoma was also known as Granny Z and was a dear aunt, cousin, and friend of many. She loved family and friends. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren; moments with them brought great joy. Zoma was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Hazel; sisters Constance Lee Brown, Jean Harris, Toni M. Robertson, Odessa Pyles, Charles Monroe Bartlett.
Zoma attended School #4 Elementary where she was a cheerleader. She also ran track for School #4 and the team won the City Championship. She attended Shortridge High School for one year before going to Crispus Attucks. She graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. Zoma completed 1 year of studies at Butler University. Following retirement from Chevrolet, Zoma dedicated herself as a housewife and homemaker. She met her husband Leo at the Dairy Queen on West Street, they later wed in April 1969.
Zoma accepted Christ at an early age. She enjoyed her church family and was honored to be “Mother” of Mercy Love Grace Church. Mom believed in serving the community and education. She served as a volunteer board member and chairman of the hospitality committee for Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association. Zoma was a member of Indianapolis Public Schools Parent Teach Organization. Throughout the years she held various positions including Vice President of the PTO and serving on the parent committee for the downtown IPS office. Even when her kids had graduated, Granny Z continued to volunteer to assist with students improving reading skills at IPS#70.
