Mary Brown Obituary

Mrs. Mary Jane Brown was born in Pace Mississippi, on November 2, 1943, the 4th child of the late Levi and Nancy Jackson, she was lovingly called Sister Mary and attended Rosedale High in Rosedale Mississippi.

Mary was baptized at an early age at Peter Rock Baptist Church by the late Reverend Wm. Fox.

Mary was married to the late Nathaniel Brown in 1960.

Mary moved to Indianapolis Indiana in 1964 at the age of 21 and started a new chapter in life. She came from Mississippi with a young son but later gave birth to 2 daughters and raised a goddaughter.

Mary loved the title of “Mother” and always said it was the best job God could give you that you could never retire from. Mary was just as loving in private as she was in public. Mary said a prayer for her entire family and friends daily. Whatever title you held in her heart; she knew she was blessed for you to be there. She was loyal, honest, and saved during her life on this earth. She was satisfied with the hand she was dealt, because in her own words. “We didn’t make ourselves and we don’t question God’s work”

She joined a few churches but found solace and comfort in Grace Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in the ’80s under the leadership of the late Reverend James Brown. She joined the choir and eventually moved on to the honor of being on the church’s Mother’s Board. She loved her church family and in return, they loved her too.

She sang with The Heavenly Bound Singers, The Grace Believers, and The Gospel Starlights.

Mary worked at Mechanics Laundry, MCL Cafeteria, Roadway Inn Motel, Wishard Hospital, and Embassy Suites Hotel, which she retired from in 2004 after working there for 28 years.

Mary departed this life on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the age of 78 years and 2 months. Her parents Levi and Nancy Jackson 4 sisters, 1 brother, 1 nephew, and her son Larry preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories: 2 daughters Dwana Jackson, Shelia Brown, and 1 Goddaughter Christian Johnson, 4 grandkids: Antwaun (Arnold ) Brown, Sheilandria (DeLavon) Wells, Jose Miles Jr. Eve Shemaria McKinney, 8 awesome great-grandkids, 2 bonus daughters Tina Jackson & Jenel Logan and a host of bonus grandchildren and great-grandkids, 5 brothers Robert (Jannie) Jackson, Walter (Donna) Jackson, Prentiss (Terry) Jackson all of Indianapolis IN.
