Lee Potts was born December 15, 1947, in Clarksdale, Mississippi,
to Clifton Potts, Sr., and Lille Mae Potts-Lee, and his family
moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, as a young child. He received
his education through the Indianapolis public school system. He
graduated from Woods High School. Lee was a professional boxer
and boxed at the Christamore House for many years.
After high school, Lee enlisted into the United States Navy to
proudly serve his country. After he was discharged from the
United States Navy, he went to work at International Harvester.
Lee dedicated 40 years of service to International Harvester before
retiring twice.
Lee was the proud father of Donald, Donna, and Kimberly Potts.
Lee was united in marriage with Ava D. Gurley on March 15, 1984,
and to this union three daughters were born.
Lee joined the body of Christ in 1983. He was a loyal member of
Central Heights Church of Christ where he served as Deacon of
Finances and in the bus ministry and other ministries. Lee moved
his membership to Hovey Street Church of Christ where he was a
faithful member until his passing. He was a loyal brother to the
Men of God.
Lee was a God-fearing man, he loved being around his church
family, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for the Body of Christ.
Lee loved studying and talking about the Word of God. When
discussing the Word with others he would often say, “What does
the Word say?”
Lee loved spending time with his family, especially his
grandchildren who lovingly called him “Dukup.” He had a special
name for each of them.
Lee departed this life and went from labor to reward on Friday,
May 6, 2022, at the age of 75 years old. He was preceded in death
by his parents; wife, Ava; son, Donald; daughter, Donna; and
siblings, Larry, Gloria Potts, and Darian Bateman.
He leaves to cherish his memory: brother, Clifton Potts, Jr.;
daughters, Kimberly Riley, Niah Potts, Whitney Potts, and
Leahnah Potts; son, Roger Jones; grandchildren, Cameron, Tyren,
Ty’Ara, DeAndre, Deonte, Deovonte, Essence, and Sas.
