Kevin Latrell Grimes was gifted from God to Sonya Grimes and the late Pierre Roberson, on the 20th day of September, the year of 1997, in East Chicago, Indiana. Kevin was affectionately nicknamed “Pooda” and was often referred to as the same in the West Calumet Complex Neighborhood of East Chicago, where he was raised and loved by many.
Kevin attended the East Chicago Public School System, before his mother and her wife, Cherron Anderson, relocated him and his two brothers, Monteniz and Ke’Monnie, to Indianapolis, Indiana, in 2008.
On September 6, 2013, Kevin accepted Jesus the Christ, at the Home Going Service of his Bestie, Cousin, Like a Brother, Kwanzie “K-Pete” Peterson. Although Kevin was only the tender age of 15 and had no knowledge that he had more time behind him than in front of him — the Holy Spirit had whispered “Come to Me My Child and follow me”.
After Kevin continued to try and walk his journey alone, some bad choices led him to Pendleton, Indiana, where he so proudly completed his high school education; receiving his Diploma from Providence High School in 2015. In the same year, he met his best friend, who later became the love of his life — Latrice Nicks.
In 2017, Kevin was blessed with his son, Ethan Lamar Grimes, together with Shadora Grant. Like in most relationships, Kevin and Trice had their ups and downs. Nevertheless, their love for each other surpassed anyone else’s understanding and Trice loved Ethan just as much as Kevin and Shadora.
After Kevin became ill, Latrice’s love for him made her wear yet another hat and she wore it well, as Kevin’s compassionate caregiver. Kevin’s family will forever be grateful and appreciative for her job well done.`
The Book of Ecclesiastes; the 7th Chapter and the 1st Verse, teaches us that it is better to rejoice in death than in birth. On Sunday, the 6th day of June, 2021, the family praised and worship God, in Kevin’s hospital room, for the season He allowed us to share with Kevin. Although weeping will endure for a night, we rest assure that joy will come in the morning. After midnight on the 7th, which number represents completeness or perfection, Kevin made his earthly transition.
Kevin was proceeded into eternity by his maternal great- grandparents Beatrice Pollard-Williams and Eddie B. Williams, together with his great-aunt, Patricia Williams and his cousin, Kwanzie Peterson.
Life will never be the same for his son, Ethan Grimes, who Kevin lovingly nicked named “Mac”, nor his fiancé, Latrice Nicks. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord; nevertheless, Kevin’s physical absent leaves a void in the hearts of his mother, Sonya Grimes-Anderson and her wife, Cherron Anderson, as well as his brothers; Monteniz Grimes-McKeethan, Ke’Monnie Grimes and his cousin/brother, Keilan Laws. His maternal grandparents, Devra Williams, Broderick (the late Gathon) Grimes and his Nana; Ursula McChristian-Williams, will also forever treasure the memory of Kevin unconditional love.
Kevin had one niece, Reign McKeethan and one very special aunt; Kyra Laws, and two other aunts; Taja Pryor and Todne Lightsey, and one great-aunt, Wanda Williams; three uncles; Galen (Tabatha) Brooks, Broderick Grimes, Jr., Johnny (Caitlyn) Aldridge and one great-uncle; Maurice Williams. Kevin also leaves numerous other relatives and friends to cherish his legacy, as we all pray that God grants him a seat at His right side, in the Kingdom of Heaven, on Judgement Day.
