Jerri Elaine Smith was born in Indianapolis, Indiana at Methodist Hospital on December 9, 1963. She was the daughter of Margarette Hankins Smith and Isaac Smith, Sr.
Jerri attended school #73 for elementary and Julian D. Coleman school #110. Jerri was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in 1982. Jerri continued her education at Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana to pursue a career in nursing. On her career path, Jerri received a certified nursing assistant (CNA) certification in 1986. In 1990, Jerri became a qualified medical assistant (QMA) and a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree in 1992. Jerri was a member of the National Black Nurses Association as well as the American Nursing Association. Nursing came natural to her; it was her passion! She loved helping people, which made her a phenomenal woman and nurse.
The simplest pleasures in life such as her dogs, writing poetry, reading novels, continuously educating herself, watching movies, playing video games, traveling, pampering herself and spending time with family and friends brought Jerri joy. Jerri absolutely loved her family and friends. She would do anything for anyone at any time, if she could. She was truly one in a million and will be missed dearly.
Jerri’s remarkable life came to an unexpected end on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
She is preceded in death by her (mother) Margarette Hankins Smith, (siblings) Denise Pamela Smith, Scott Wilson and Deborah Lee.
She leaves to cherish her memory her (father) Isaac Smith Sr., (sisters) Deborah Smith- Mason, Sherri Smith, Etoria Smith, Monica Butts, Alexandria Winborn and Margarette Smith-Anderson, her (brother) Issaac Smith, Jr. Her (uncle) Henry Smith and her (brothers-in-law) Jerry Lee Sr. and Quinton Anderson. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, relatives and friends.
