Gerald Perkins, also known as “Perk”, was born September 3, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, through the union of John Wesley and Wilma Perkins. Gerald attended Elementary Schools 27, 60 and Mapleton Fall Creek Middle School. He attended Shortridge High School and later received his GED. Gerald married Ruthie Perkins May 8, 1995. They divorced May 13, 2014, and remained devoted friends until his demise.
Gerald worked as an auto mechanic and construction worker. Perk loved his “24th Street Mad Dogs.” He loved listening to his old school music. He always dressed with style, rarely seen without his Kango Hat. Gerald also loved riding his motorcycle. He joined the 317 Riders Motorcycle Club and was a member for over 10 years. Everybody loved “Diewo”, which was his chosen Muslim name.
Our hearts were deeply saddened on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021, when Gerald, at the age of 64, had his life cut short, due to unforeseen illness. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents: John Wesley and Wilma Perkins and two brothers: Duane Wilcoxson and Darrell Perkins.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Gerald Perkins Jr., Desmond Perkins, Gerald Gray, Dustin Perkins, Tyrese Perkins, Jordan Wesley Perkins, Lakisha Harris, Erica Perkins, Alexis Perkins, and Sade Perkins; siblings: John Wesley Perkins Jr., William Perkins, Paul Frederick Summers, Lamont Perkins, Fostina Summers, Pamela Woods, and Laverne Perkins; grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
