Florine (Churchwell) Cropper

Florine (Churchwell) Cropper was born October 05, 1937 in Decatur County, TN to James C.
and Essie M. (Culp) Churchwell both preceding her in death. She was the second of seven
children.

Florine received her formal education from the Lake County, TN school system. Later in life
she attended school earning her certificate and license as a dental assistant.
Florine migrated to Milwaukee WI in the mid-nineteen sixties where she met and married
Joseph Cropper (who preceded her in death). She resided there until moving to Indianapolis. IN,
during the summer of 2019.

Florine worked many years as a dental assistant before opening several businesses.
Florine was an entrepreneur opening a restaurant, rooming house and security company
alongside her husband who preceded her in death.

Florine loved to cook and was excellent at doing so. While being her on cook for her restaurant,
folk would be standing in line waiting for her to open. She and hubby had one of the cleverest
names for all of their businesses, they all were named A BOSS, i.e. A Boss Restaurant, A Boss
Rooming House, etc. She also loved shooting pool and playing various card games.
Florine, upon the closing of the restaurant, worked many years as an activity planner for a
rehab center for the elderly before finally retiring,

Florine was a member of the International F & AM Mason and Order of the Eastern Star, a
Jehovah Witness for many years. Later in life she converted to the Missionary Baptist faith
joining a church in Milwaukee, WI. and upon relocating to Indianapolis, IN. she united with True
Vine Miss, Bapt. Church.

Florine was a quiet person and stayed much to herself until she got to know you then she
would become very talkative.

Florine departed this life early morning February 22, 2024 at the age of 86yrs, 4mos. & 17days.
Florine was preceded in death by daughter (Barbara Powell), son (William Powell), grandson
(Stephen Powell), brother (Claude Churchwell) and sister (Martha Yearling).
Florine leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Min. Josephine Bowie-Minor of
Indianapolis, IN and Wilma Joyce Shelton of Milwaukee, WI., eight grandchildren, seven great
grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Also two sisters, Virginia M. Williams and Dr.
Wilma C. Horton (Earl), two brothers Elder James E. Churchwell (Willadean), and Willie R.
Churchwell all of Indianapolis, IN. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host
of other relatives and friends.
